NANS Turkiye at Presidential Palace: A Historic Engagement

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Turkey proudly represented Nigerian students during the historic visit of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to the Republic of Turkey. This engagement marked a significant moment for Nigerian students in the diaspora, reaffirming their relevance as stakeholders in national development and global representation.

NANS Turkey was represented by the President of NANS Turkiye, Comrade Caleb Olasupo, Com Aderonke Nans Turkiye Vice President, alongside the Vice President of the Association of Nigerian Students and Scholars in Ankara (ANSSA), Comrade Suleyman. Together, they represented the entire Nigerian student community in Turkey, demonstrating unity, structure, and collective leadership under the NANS Turkey umbrella.

The high-level engagement brought together senior Nigerian and Turkish officials, creating a powerful platform for dialogue, cooperation, and strategic interaction. It allowed Nigerian student leadership to be visible at the highest levels of national and international diplomacy, further strengthening the voice of students in diaspora affairs.

During the engagement, NANS Turkey had the honour of meeting and interacting with key leaders of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including:

  • The Honourable Minister of Defence
  • Minister for the Interior
  • The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Chief Adebayo Olawale Edun, CVO
  • The Honourable Minister of Trade and Investment
  • The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs
  • The leadership of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), led by Hon. Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa

These interactions were highly inspiring and encouraging. The ministers emphasized the importance of youth leadership, discipline, innovation, and positive national representation. They also highlighted the critical role Nigerian students and youths must play in economic growth, investment development, and nation-building.

A special highlight was the round-table engagement with Hon. Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of NIDCOM. Her motherly passion, commitment, and deep concern for the welfare of Nigerian youths and students, both at home and in the diaspora, were clearly demonstrated. She reaffirmed her readiness to maintain close communication with NANS Turkiye and to explore strategic partnerships that will benefit Nigerian students and strengthen diaspora engagement.

State Dinner at the Presidential Palace

NANS Turkey also had the distinguished honour of attending the state dinner held at the Presidential Palace, in the presence of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and His Excellency, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The dinner brought together ministers, senior government officials, and diplomatic representatives from both Nigeria and Turkey, symbolizing the strong bilateral relations between the two nations. Being part of this historic diplomatic gathering further positioned NANS Turkey within an international leadership and policy environment and emphasized the recognition of Nigerian student leadership at the highest level.

So far, NANS Turkey has:

  • Strengthened its recognition as the umbrella body for Nigerian students in Turkey
  • Built direct engagement with top government officials
  • Opened pathways for collaboration with NIDCOM and other national institutions
  • Enhanced its credibility within diplomatic and policy-making circles
  • Projected Nigerian students as responsible, organized, and future-focused leaders

These milestones represent more than ceremonial achievements; they reflect progress in advocacy, diplomacy, and strategic positioning of Nigerian students in the diaspora.
